There is no war
My response to Suzanne Venkar's article about the "War on Men."
The media (and society) is unfair to both men & women. Men are portrayed as idiots and buffoons. Women are portrayed as sex objects and nags.
I think the woman who wrote this article has made a few minor points that I agree with; but she's making issues gender issues when they are not. Not having recess in school is not a gender issue. It's just an issue. Women need exercise too. I think that a debate about the use of medication is fair...but society is not medicating men to make them more like women. And the laws in place that may result in hockey being cut from a college program; this is about creating good intentioned and needed legislation that doesn't allow for reasonable adjustments at the local level. This is an example of an unintended outcome of the law.
As for the comments she makes about sexual harassment and the lot...I'm ashamed that rape is so rampant in this country. I don't care who the perpetrator and victims are. We need to start treating each other with respect, stop point fingers at others, and start teaching our children how to grow up to be emotionally mature adults. Violence is an attempt to take control and exert power over a person or situation when emotions and situations get difficult. We need a kinder society that respects life.
Media and Men: This is a blog post that discusses the role of violence in male gender identification in the United States.

There is no war. We need to see this for what it is; people struggling to live and to be seen.

Design Matters: John Hockenberry
Great episode; it covers a wide variety of issues regarding the current state of the news media; covering the present and future of the industry; it's life on TV & radio, where it is failing and how it has improved over the past few years. (It gives one hope! :-) )
